Maundy Thursday: The Last Supper, Gethsemane, & Arrest

Maundy-Thursday.png

Maundy Thursday commemorates the “last supper” of Jesus with his disciples when they gathered together to celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread (part of the Passover week celebration). The word, “maundy” comes from the Latin word for “command” and refers to Jesus’ command to the disciples to “Love one another as I have loved you.” This is a lot of reading today so I encourage you to set aside some extra time so you don’t skim through it nor skip any of the four gospel versions. Rather, try to note the details from each account of these world-changing events of that night: dinner, betrayal, washing of feet, agony in the garden, arrest, Peter’s denials & the weakness of the disciples.

Today’s readings: Matt 26:17-75; Mark 14:12-72; Luke 22:7-65; John 13 & 18:1-11
